Hybrid materials

When bio met nano

Three vials on a laboratory workbench

Our hybrid materials combine biomolecules with inorganic or polymeric nanostructures. We often employ nanostructured building blocks functionalized with multifunctional surface linkers to enable attachment of biomolecular components.

Toolbox

We have developed a toolbox of different linker molecules to enable the functionalisation of nanostructures and exploit various click-chemistry strategies to tailor the attachment of biomolecules ranging from DNA to antibodies.  Some of our hybrid structures include self-healing hydrogels suitable for 3D printing of engineered tissues and silver nanoparticle-doped DNA used for the design of memory devices and artificial synapses
