The Laser Analytics Group (LAG) develops advanced laser-based imaging techniques to study systems ranging from fundamental chemical processes to the molecular mechanisms of disease. By combining expertise in physics, biology, chemistry and engineering, the team designs new tools that allow researchers to observe and analyse complex systems with high sensitivity and precision. Their work spans both the development of novel sensing and imaging technologies and their application to important challenges in chemistry, biology and medicine.
The group works closely with collaborators across the University of Cambridge and beyond, contributing to large interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Neurodegenerative disease consortium, the Cambridge advanced imaging centre and the OpenLabTools (OLT) initiative. Members of the group also lead strategic programmes including CamBridgeSens, which brings together sensor research across the University, and the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sensor Technologies (Sensor CDT). Through these collaborations, the group aims to advance new analytical methods while supporting research across a wide range of scientific and biomedical fields.

The central theme of our work is the development and application of modern laser spectroscopy and imaging methods to elucidate details and dynamics of chemical processes.
